Embracing Afro Hair in Luxury Spaces

As I scanned multiple photos on the internet, I noticed a significant lack of representation of afro hair in luxury spaces and the luxury industry.

Identifying the Lack of Afro Hair Representation

Despite actively searching for videos and content related to afro hair in luxury settings, I have found very little. This absence of representation sparked a realization of the need for more visibility of afro hair in luxury spaces.

The Need for Visibility in Luxury Spaces

The lack of representation of afro hair in luxury spaces is a concern that extends beyond mere aesthetics. Our textured hair is a significant part of our unique beauty, and it’s disheartening not to see enough resources promoting it in luxury settings. This absence not only impacts individuals seeking representation but also reflects a broader societal narrative that needs to be addressed.

Recently, I treated myself to a full day at a luxury spa called GoPlace in Ontario Canada. As I was preparing for the day, I found myself questioning whether I should wear my natural, shrunken afro hair. This led me to ponder why I even had to consider this. Why should I second-guess presenting myself in a luxury setting with my natural hair? These internal deliberations highlighted a deeper issue of self-doubt rooted in the lack of representation of afro hair in luxury spaces.

The Impact of Representation on Personal Confidence

My search for inspiration on how to style my hair for this luxury spa day yielded very little results. This lack of representation got me thinking about the need for more visibility of afro hair in luxury lifestyle. Our textured hair is a significant part of our unique beauty, and it’s disheartening not to see enough resources promoting it in luxury settings. This absence not only impacts individuals seeking representation but also reflects a broader societal narrative that needs to be addressed.

The representation of afro hair in luxury spaces carries significant implications for celebrating our unique beauty. As black women, we deserve to see more representation of our textured hair in upclass settings. Since the #blackgirlluxury trend has been gaining traction, it’s essential that our unique beauty, including our textured hair, is celebrated and represented in these spaces.

Why Does This Matter?

The normalization of afro hair in luxury spaces is not just about individual experiences. It’s about erasing the notion that afro hair isn’t polished or doesn’t belong in luxury settings.

Our natural hair is equally deserving of luxury, and it’s time we normalize seeing it in these spaces. It’s about empowering black women to feel confident and comfortable wearing their natural, afro-textured hair in luxury settings without second-guessing themselves.

When I went to the spa, I made a conscious decision to embrace my natural hair, and it was a liberating experience. I didn’t feel out of place, and I want more black women to feel the same way. I want us to feel comfortable wearing our natural, afro-textured hair in luxury settings without second-guessing ourselves. Representation matters, and it’s up to us to promote and celebrate our unique beauty.

Closing Thoughts

I hope that by sharing my thoughts, I can encourage more conversations around this topic. I want us to feel empowered to embrace our natural hair and feel confident in any room.

The representation of afro hair in luxury spaces is a topic that demands attention and action. It’s not just about individual experiences; it’s about reshaping societal narratives and promoting the celebration of diverse beauty. Our natural hair is equally deserving of luxury, and it’s time we normalize seeing it in these spaces.

Let’s work together to promote and celebrate afro hair in luxury spaces, erasing the notion that it isn’t polished or doesn’t belong. Thank you for joining the conversation. If you enjoyed this blogpost, join our biweekly newsletter.
